The Hunger Games series is going from Katniss to Cornelius in a fascinating fundamental change in focus for the just-released prequel book The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. This time, Suzanne Collins is taking us back to a time when Cornelius Snow was not President of Panem. While the villain's rise to power is already touched on the main Hunger Games trilogy (he wears a rose to mask the scent of blood on his breath caused by all of the mouth ulcers he gave himself by poisoning his political opponent and drinking a smaller dose), it will be fascinating to see how his personality became the way it is. It will also be interesting to see if Collins sheds light on the development of Panem itself, possibly culmintating with the first ever Hunger Games being held. How does Snow get the idea of holding them? What is his relationship like with the very first maniacal gamemakers who make his violent deathmatch ideas into reality.
