James Cameron's Avatar sequels are all delayed again

When Avatar first premiered in 2009, it was one of the most extraordinary movies many of us had ever seen. Even though we knew there would be sequels and that they would take some time to make, it's pretty safe to say nearly none of us could have predicted it would take well over a decade to release another installment. Avatar 2 was going to be premiering in December of 2021, but was just pushed back by Disney to December 2022.

This means that the rescheduled Avatar sequels will now release in December of 2022, 2024, 2026, and 2028. The movies are being shot back to back and were reportedly all set back due to being unable to film in New Zealand or Los Angeles during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many films and tv shows have been impacted, the concurrent filming schedule for the Avatar sequels meant that a production delay on the first sequel would have a ripple effect on the others. In essence, there was no slack time in the schedule and certainly nothing that could offset the lost filming days from this entire pandemic.

Are you still looking forward to seeing more Avatar films even with the next one more than two years off? Let me know! For me, it feels like I'll be using a walker and taking my dentures out at a nursing home by the time we actually get to see the sequels.
