Sunday night may have marked the biggest mix up in Oscars history.
It all started when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway made their way to the stage to announce the winner of the night's biggest award, Best Picture. After Beatty opened the winner envelope, he was hesitant to make the announcement because he saw Emma Stone's name on the card. It was at this point that Dunaway announced La La Land as the winner.
The cast of the infectious musical made their way on stage and that's when things really got awkward and before long, stage hands stepped in to clarify the mistake. La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz graciously stepped up to the mic and was quick to point out that Moonlight actually won before beckoning the true winning cast up on-stage. I'll say this, that man is SUCH a good sport! Also worth noting, Beatty returned to the mic to explain that he was genuinely confused when he opened the envelope and wasn't trying to make a joke.
According to CNN, the announcement snafu likely originated from the two PWPricewaterhouseCoopers accoutants charged with standing to the side of the stage and handing presenters the sealed winner envelopes right before they walk out
