Last night's live episode of America's Got Talent was plagued with numerous technical glitches that directly interfered with some of the finalists' performances. Worth noting right here and right now that some folks on the technical side need to take a lot of the blame. I've been to many tapings of the show in-studio over the years and there used to be a point where the lighting crew, stage crew, and technical staff functioned as one cohesive unit that never once caused a stage setup delay or the cancellation of an act during a live show. One of the impacted acts was supposed to involve a daredevil being trapped in a wooden box suspended over flaming spikes.
That box was supposed to fall, leaving the audience to wonder if the performer was still inside. When that didn't happen and the act appeared to abruptly stop, both the studio audience and the AGT judges were less than pleased.
Mel B started it all off with a VERY loud X buzzer before the daredevil was even located. To be fair, it was a terrible performance regardless of who was at fault. Then, when asked for his thoughts, Simon Cowell threw out one of his signature controversial lines and compared the performance to Mel B's wedding night. Mel was clearly bothered by the remark and quickly got up to duck into a backstage hallway. She was back shortly after.
