Will Smith got especially candid on his YouTube channel about his decision to decline a role on The Matrix. While we now know what a smash-hit that trilogy would become, Smith had his reasons for turning down the opportunity.
For starters, Smith was tired of working in the sci-fi realm after appearing in Men In Black. Even though The Matrix is more focused on virtual reality than aliens, the sci-fi elements still made him hesitate to accept the gig. During a pitch by Matrix creators The Wachowski brothers, Smith was apparently put off by the way they described the iconic 360 degree mid air shot of the Neo character and thought it all sounded a little over-the-top, so he went on to make Wild Wild West instead.
