I've got to be honest, my view around Disney's remake of The Lion King has completely changed. While I still wish there was an emphasis on original movies with original stories, the visual upgrade with the new CGI is stunning and it sounds like the voice cast is more than talented enough to give it a nice boost.
There was some controversy centered around Seth Rogen's Pumbaa character looking too scary to give off the lighthearted tone he is known for but that opinion just doesn't sit well with me. My reasoning is pretty simple, it's grossly unrealistic to sit there and someone expect a cartoon-looking warthog to be shoehorned into a film where literally every other animal looks to be as close to real-looking as possible. In other words, I think people complained about it without knowing what it was, exactly, they would do to alter his look. Pumbaa is a warthog. Pumbaa looks like a warthog. If that's controversial, then we are just going to have to agree to disagree because my mind is made up!
Disney's The Lion King hits theaters July 19th.
