A new campaign promoting safe driving is underway in Tempe, Arizona and while that alone usually wouldn't be worth discussing way out here in the Southern Tier, there's one big part of the plan that is becoming increasingly controversial.
The safe driving campaign involves officers pulling over GOOD (law-abiding) drivers... which really makes zero sense. According to NBC 12 News, those drivers would be rewarded with a Circle K mini-mart beverage coupon for correctly following traffic laws related to bicycles or pedestrians.
My thoughts: This campaign just isn't a good idea. What law-abiding driver in their right mind would enjoy the added stress of being pulled over for doing literally NOTHING wrong?! Forget about a silly coupon for some soda or coffee... if someone is driving just minding their own business and following the laws, there's no good reason to stop them. As well-intentioned as the program is, it's an awful idea.
