I might've just watched the most awkward Jimmy Kimmel interview of all-time. Joker star Joaquin Phoenix appeared on Kimmel's show and was blindsided when the host aired footage from the set of the movie showing the actor getting angry and cursing at the film's cinematographer. Phoenix seemed incredibly embarrassed by the whole situation and explained that the movie-making process can get intense when you have so many people crowded into one small space trying to create something together.
So, who's in the right here? It seemed like a strange move for Kimmel to show embarrassing footage of one of his guests. However, I don't agree with the fans who completely defend Phoenix going off on a crew member, even if it wasn't on the level of Christian Bale's legendary freakout. I'll give full credit where it's due though, he quickly apologized for his language and wasn't flat-out screaming either. It was more of a calm, yet tense, moment.
Side note, Joker looks like a grounded, gritty, and truly captivating film that's undoubtedly a must-see for me. Catch it in theaters starting tomorrow!
