Bob Iger has stepped down as CEO of the Walt Disney Company. Iger lead the entertainment empire for 15 years after taking over for Michael Eisner and oversaw a number of massive acquisitions that changed Disney's future forever.
Those acquisitions include Pixar, LucasFilm (Star Wars), 21st Century Fox (including The Simpsons and Family Guy), and Marvel... quite the shopping list! Iger also pushed for the development of Disney+, the company's first streaming platform. With Disney+ came original streaming shows and with those original streaming shows came the show with the biggest pop culture impact since Stranger Things.... Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
Baby Yoda immedately became perhaps the most beloved character on the small screen at the moment and the trademark phrases "I Have Spoken", and "This Is The Way" gained traction with fans and casual viewers alike. Even with all of the ongoing success digitially, with live action remakes, and theme park growth, Bob Iger still decided that now was the time to step aside as CEO and let somebody else step up to the position.
Bob Chapek was named as Iger's successor, effective immediately. According to the LA Times, Chapek had previously served as the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.
